We’re looking for a Middle+ PHP Developer to join our backend team and help evolve a large-scale international sports platform. You’ll work on performance, integrations, refactoring, and architecture, all without interrupting a highly loaded production environment.
Benefits
Our core platform is a custom-built PHP monolith that has been running reliably for 20+ years. The product serves 4M+ monthly users with traffic peaks of 12,000+ RPS, combining a mature legacy monolith with modern Laravel-based microservices. It performs extremely well under high load, but requires careful modernization, refactoring, and incremental architectural improvements. Alongside the monolith, we support and develop several Laravel microservices integrated with the main REST API. Core Tech Stack: PHP 7.4, MySQL (high-load optimization), Nginx, Memcached, Redis (sessions), file cache, CDN, OAuth, external REST APIs, Laravel, Docker, CI/CD, Python scripts, Grafana.
About the company and the project:
Your tasks
Support and evolve the legacy PHP monolith: bug fixes, new features, step-by-step refactoring. Optimize performance: SQL tuning, caching, profiling, handling 10k+ RPS load. Integrate external APIs, handle OAuth flows, build REST endpoints for clients and bots. Develop and maintain Laravel-based microservices, containerization, CI/CD deployments. Collaborate with DevOps on diagnosing and resolving issues, environment setup. Analyze metrics and logs and participate in incident investigations. Contribute to architectural improvements and separation of logic, data, and templates.
Example Tasks in the First Months: Profiling bottlenecks, introducing caching layers, optimizing heavy SQL queries, Diagnosing and stabilizing cron jobs, Adding new REST endpoints for external partners.
Advantages
Requirements

Practical experience with caching (Memcached, Redis), session stores. Understanding of REST, OAuth, and external API integrations. Ability to analyze metrics and logs (Grafana, Nginx, PHP). Confident with Linux environments, Git, and safe production workflows.
Nice to Have: Experience or interest in Python or Go – opportunity to grow into our second backend team. Experience with Laravel, Docker, CI/CD pipelines. Understanding of architectural patterns and gradual monolith refactoring. Experience with multilingual projects, CDN, and content caching. Practical Python knowledge for utilities or integrations.
Real high-load experience: millions of users, thousands of RPS.
Influence on architecture and modernization of a long-standing product.
Strong engineering team: Team Lead, experienced DevOps, structured release process.
Well-established monitoring and incident analysis culture.
Opportunity to transition into the Python/Go team building the new core of the platform.
